Old dogs can learn new tricks............ I made some experiments on some of my juvenile Emys orbicularis. I tried to keep them under different conditions and strangly enough they started to act on it and showed different colors. One kept in full light, plants and clear water and the other in muddy water with no sight. Clear difference I must say. I newer heard of that before Best wishes Soe PS Hmm I wonder why the picture is so big......... should be fairly small in size

They are hatched in August 2005 and kept outside all summer under these conditions. I started to se the difference in the Spring and it gets easier and easier to see that there is a difference. I now have 10 x 1m2 containers for babies, so there will be space to the about 50 babies I have at present Best wishes Søe

Hi Mostly I keep and raise the young ones. Some I have sold to other keepers that has promissed to keep them clean and seperate them from other more southern Emys orbicularis. The northern form is hard to find (Very hard actually Took me 20 years to get any) so it is important for me to know that they will be kept in the future because they are more cold tolerant than most. The old ones are outside all year and even breed out there. It happens I don`t find the nests and then find babies in late Autum. I incubate them in different incubators. From 25*C to 28.5*C to be sure to make both males and females. At lower temperature there are some fatality among the embryo, but if not I only get females. Incubation time is 60-80 days
Best wishes Søe
