Just decided to keep a diary/blog regarding my reptiles, which are all kept outside.....at least during the warmer months. Hope it may be of some help....or at least provoke some discussion on this subject. keepingreptilesalfresco.blogspot.com/

I like the Turtle pond you have. i use plastic mesh with small holes for ladders for my Chelonia to leave the water. it works well and lasts a long time.
Have you bred the Emys orbicularis?

Will see how i get on with the coir covered mesh, but a plastic mesh with small holes in would be ideal. the danger with using anything with large holes, is that the turts may get their feet trapped Not bred any Emys yet, i have two females approaching breeding age but no male. Have a few young, which are of Ukranian origin and are eating like pigs. Have about seven juvenile Caspians to go out, both rivulata and leprosa. Also have some Spotteds , but need to design and build an enclosure for them urgently.

Great good luck with them all, post some pictures if you can I would be interested to see them. The plastic mesh I use I got from the a pier I think they use them on mussel farms. they have rounded diamond shape holes and I dont think they could get their feet trapped but yes one has to be careful with other types. ill post a pic of it if i can get one.

Just read the latest entry, things are looking very good indeed! Well done! Quick question! The black tubs you used for the turtles, what are they and where do you get them? I was thinking about getting some attic water tanks and using them for my surplus newts but those look ideal!
Thanks

You should be able to get one for about £20.00 from somewhere like Jewsons. I've got one, it collects rain water!

Hey I really enjoyed your blog last year and have put a link on my new blog to it. I hope you will post more soon on your blog- been nearly a year that I've been watching with no updates. I enjoyed it *that* much! I was waiting to hear how your turtles did over winter.

Yes i should keep the blog up to date, the turtles all got through last winter both in the ponds and in the tubs. This winter the Emys orbicularis will stay in their pool, but i collected all my various juveniles up from around the garden. They will go through the winter in tubs, where i can keep an eye on them.
