I have just obtained a pair of terrestris which will go in an outdoor vivarium. I was just wondering how many of you guys keep yours out all year round or do you bring them in for the winter? Last year I put four yellow bellied toads in an outdoor viv and only two of them made it through the winter so I don't want to make a similar mistake again. Any advice/ experiences appreciated. Would you consider Staffordshire to be too far north for terrestris outdoors all year round? Cheers.

I have an outdoor vivaria for s s terrestris, and after overwintering this year the female produced young for me. Just make sure you have a frost free underground hibernaculum for them for when the weather gets its coldest

I have a small group of terrestris that I would like to keep outdoors, but fear that the southeastern U.S. (more specifically, North Carolina) summers would be far too hot for them. My backyard is almost fully shaded, but the temperature still climbs up to 82-83 F regularly. That said, I'm working on an outdoor enclosure for some Ambystomids that are native to the area.
Of course, none of this helps answer the thread's original question...but I'm new to the forum and was excited to see some life in the "Salamander" section.
