maybe andrew or will could shed a little light on this. my pair of pygmy marbled newts have just finished breeding, and contrary to what i thought i knew about triturus, their colours are beginning to brighten. during courtship and breeding, both were a slightly dissapointing khaki green colour and rather non-descript (apart from the male's crest), but now breeding is over and the males crest is shrinking he is becoming much more colourful and the female is getting greener with more contrast in her mottling. i will post before and after pics tomorrow.
