I have a male salamandra terrestris (soon to be a pair) in a very large 1.5m enclosure and I was thinking since its so large I could house some Ichthyosaura alpestris in it it has lots of hiding spots and it has been place where the whole enclosures is frost free and I will guarantee 100% it will not frost over and has a pool wich could be change suited to the newts and is impossible to escape with over hang mesh lid and in the wild they will naturally come across each other any way. Just thinking harry.

Ive noticed this in slamandra. When I picked up my male terretris some of the others had little cuts on them and I front of my eyes one juvenile bite another but did not seem to draw blood.

If you have a cold frame or a shed they will thrive but beware of the winter because they come from Cantabria, the Basque region, northern Navarre, western and central Pyrenees and there cantabria is proberly 3 or 4 c higher howerver providing a hibernaclum would work and theres no reasons why the slamanders wont thive outdoors you would just have to keep a closer eye on them because of he fact there lot less hardy then slamandra.s.slamandra or slamandra.s.terrestris

My salamandra is in a secured outdoor enclosure and has never got out but some how there are always toad in it I remove then but they get back in. I know in the wild they come across each over naturally and the toads get along with my slamander but I dont want my slamander to catch a disease or somthing life threatening to my slamander.thanks Harrry.
