I know someone that bred these and put some tadpoles in his pond as an experiment and they did quite well!!

I know several people keeping these in outdoor ponds, even over winter, they do very well.

Are they aquatic all their life or do they have a terrestrial stage? I have heard they can drown when younger so maybe aquatic adults should only be considered? as water temp does not drop as low as air.

Killian> They are almost fully aquatic, these adults have never left the water for more than a few hours and they had only just lost their gills when I first got them, as juveniles they do require shallower water than adults but they would still be fine kept in an outdoor enclosure. Will> I've only had substrate in their tank for 3 days and thats only as they are in a new rack system and without substrate the newts would be looking down into the tanks below which could stress them a fair bit. This lot actually spawned today:

My trio spawned 2 weeks ago, unfortunately i don't have any pics but they layed almost all of their eggs singularly on the gravel and filter it was quite strange.

I'm not sure if I'll bother raising them or not, I've not got a lot of spare room at the moment.
Adam> These eggs were mostly laid singularly on plant as were the last batch I had.
