I want to make an outdoor vivaria with a pond. I want to keep newts. Is it a problem that the pond is situated in the shade.

I shouldnt imagine so depending on the species you want to keep and where you live. It also depends on what is shading the pond as if it is trees you will have a problem with leaves falling in the pond in Autum.
Alpine newts do not like heat so would be an ideal species for your situation.

Most newts of the former genus triturus do need a decent amount of sun in their ponds as sunlight is one of the key stimulus for bringing animals into breeding condition, i consider it to be more important than winter cooling!

suppose it depends on how shaded the pond is.

Thanks for your reactions. I life in the northern part of the Netherlands. It's not legal to keep alpine newts over here. I have to choose other species, so a different place for the vivarium is the best. This will be difficult. The only place with sun in my garden is the place were my wife sits the most....
When i have fond a better location and have more questions i hope you will help me. greetings Do
