Has anybody kept or bred these outside? any advise would be welcome.

I've bred them outside for over 30 years. Needs; sunny, large enclosure (e.g. at least 15x12 foot) banks (not necessarily near pond) of silver or sharp sand with logs or paving slabs on sdes and top. Pond needs to be at least 10x 8 foot with plenty of shallow areas. If you only have a small pond, I recommend laying down a temporary liner from last week in April to end of May to encourage spawning. They cannot be raised indoors without something like D3 Reptile lighting.
