i thought you could tell the differece between the two subspecies because alpestris had a spotted throat??

apuanus has the spotted throat, it's not obvious in this male but the female has more spotting (I cant make her keep still for a photograph), the apuanus are CB adults

yeah you can keep keep them outside, they are very hardy. you can keep them in anything as long as they can escape the frosts. i've got a pair, going outside in the spring.

they usually stay active even in the coldest of conditions. I find a little coldframe is a good enclosure for them you can leave the lid open all year round as long as you have an over hang to prevent escape.
