hi guys, i'm new to this forum. i have kept newts and salamanders for several years, but have only recently begun to think about breeding them. what sparked my enthusiasm for this was finding 27 larval fire salamanders in my outdoor enclosure and realising only then that i had a breeding pair. i also have a male marbled newt, which was happily living with the salamanders up untill the recent frosty spell when i decided to bring him into the conservatory in a 50/50 aquaterarrium. he has begun to take on his breeding dress so i decided to purchase a female. however, coming from a pet shop, its unlikely that she has had any kind of winter cooling. what are the chances of a successfull mating. and if not , would it be wise to cool them together, or could this harm the male

The male should probably stay in condition for months, mine have come into condition now, shall start breeding in february and then lose crest etc around august time. I have a list of available species on my website, www.freewebs.com/adamanuranhope this helps. Regarding cynops, i only keep european species but i do have a rather large paramesotriton available.

I wouldn't do it as i don't like to take unnecessary risks. I shall have some juvenile karelinii available in a short time. The karelinii i have left are outdoor raised thus are much smaller than the ones i have sold previously, they are about 4cms but eat almost anything!

my son alex(althepalme) purchased a pair of alpestris alpestris today and a male cynops . the male alpestris is very thin and weak, but it ate some bloodworm as soon as we got it home. i don't think the guy in the pet shop had fed them for a while, but the female seems big and healthy though. i'll get him to post some pictures soon.
