how big do they get and are they easy to look after

they grow to about 10cm, they are fairly easy to look after, but i would recommend a hardier species to start with, such as triturus karelinii, t. marmoratus, lissotriton montadoni or mesotriton alpestris

yes, especially the karelinii, montadoni and alpestris. from what i've heard marmoratus are a little less hardy, and you never see them.
