I'm new here and looking forward to learning from you guys how to do permanent outdoor enclosures.
I thought I'd share a few random photos to say hello and introduce myself a little. I guess many of these have nothing to do with outdoor terraria- sorry- just thought it would be fun to share-
Here is how I have been doing caging so far-
Me with bearded dragons last summer:
When it rains I have to cover with tarps to keep the dragons dry. The rain doesn't bother them so much, but damp substrate in these cages can quickly lead to problems. I built the grey building you see there with my own 2 hands (except the concrete foundation) specifically to keep lizards in during the winter. It has some nice features- I wired electrical outlets inside every 5' or so on the ceiling so I could plug lighting in everywhere I wanted, and It's got plumbing and is heavily insulated so even when temps are at their lowest outside here, I require very little extra power for heating (I usually plug in a 250watt infrared light and hang it a couple of feet above the concrete floor in the center of the room. Keeps the building above 10c all night even when temps are well below freezing oustide. the building is 9 meters by 13 meters so it's a braggable accomplishment. You can also see some iguana cages there to the left of the building. These are permanent, but the iguanas have to go in and out with the seasons of course. I'll probably be exploring some ideas to make them less artificial and more natural looking this summer now that I've looked around on the forum here at the beautiful enclosures others have created:
One of my dragons:
One of my iguanas. That is a US dollar bill next to him for size comparison.
Kids feeding a female watermelon for a treat.
Iguana eggs hatching
mellers chameleons breeding
hatching
3 months later (couple of weeks ago)
sceloporus (eastern) hatching
shinisaurus- he's bigger now and a prime candidate for an outdoor terrarium year round, maybe.
