Hi,
Can anyone tell me if crickets have a defence mechanism ? Today I fed a large black one to an adult male Viridis. The Viridis became very excited and started to flick its tail from side to side which I have only seen Geckos do but never lacerta's. Then it made a lunge at the cricket. The cricket turned away from the lizard and stuck its back end into the air. The lizard tried to grab it but quickly backed off wiping its head on the gravel as if irritated. Could the cricket have squirted a chemical or did it use the the tail spike to defend itself ? I've never seen this happen before. Has anyone had experience of this ?
Chris
