One of MY outdoor females produced 20 eggs tonight. I managed to catch her up some days ago, had been trying for several weeks but she moves very fast and hides down her hole. This time she slipped into the cold frame and I was able to climb in the enclosure and catch her.
I am well pleased, as last year she was real naughty and laid down her hole and I couldn't find the eggs. With the other females clutch due to hatch next month, I could be looking at up to 40 hatchlings this year if the incubation goes well and all due to the hot weather we have had. The outdoor female has produced exactly one month earlier owing to the hot weather we have had.
To day, we have had the first rain since the winter, I guess the farmers are well pleased. We were beginning to wonder if the plants would survive here in Kent.
