Have you got a lid? I would perhaps make the overhang a little wider! shouldnt you have a male with the female if she is gravid?

Just read the latest entry, things are looking very good indeed! Well done! Quick question! The black tubs you used for the turtles, what are they and where do you get them? I was thinking about getting some attic water tanks and using them for my surplus newts but those look ideal!
Thanks

Great good luck with them all, post some pictures if you can I would be interested to see them. The plastic mesh I use I got from the a pier I think they use them on mussel farms. they have rounded diamond shape holes and I dont think they could get their feet trapped but yes one has to be careful with other types. ill post a pic of it if i can get one.

I use aged tap water initially and then the rain tops my ponds up. I suppose it depends on the tap water in your area. I am fortunate that the tap water round here has proved fine for all my aquatic animals over the years including tropical fish. Bottled water is full of minerals which means it is hard water, I am not sure if that would have a negative effect on your newts. Rain water is generally known as soft water however it can contain all sorts of chemicals.
Welcome to the forum and good luck with your new animals and post some pics of your set-up when complete

I like the Turtle pond you have. i use plastic mesh with small holes for ladders for my Chelonia to leave the water. it works well and lasts a long time.
Have you bred the Emys orbicularis?

It wouldn't work out too expensive for a smaller enclosure if they will sell it in small quantities? otherwise I would say it could be home made. The measurements are there although I would make the over hang a lot wider!

Welcome to the board! that certainly is an interesting introduction. You have raised some very valid points and some interesting questions. hopefully somebody on here will be able to help you out. I live in Ireland and it rarely if ever gets above 18C in the summer so the species you mentioned must be kept indoors. I concentrate on cold loving species therefore outdoors. There are some keepers on here from the south of Europe and one or two Americans. Do keep us updated on your plans though I will be interested to read more

I think Garter snakes are an ideal outdoor species, they will eat pieces of fish from a bowl. Let us know what designs you come up with and how things develop.

there are lots of good videos of courting newts on youtube. has anyone on here come across or posted any videos of their outdoor vivaria on there? perhaps we could start a list of good links to youtube here?
